Actual update

At tom's, so I can actually write something.. (someone else was here today, btw, it looks like.. there's a note and all.. just didn't know I was the only one keeping the little ones company)…

This past weekend in Philly was super busy but very nice. I had a set at Dark Corner, went fine upstairs, one downtempo and one 80s new wave, and another round downstairs that was plagued by all manner of discombobulation from both me and the deck, which refused to play my tapping the vein CD leaving us with nearly a full minute of dead air while I recovered, and another snafu which resulted in two Covenant songs being played within three songs of each other–but neither song is one you hear often.

I have found all my playlists finally and will post them tonight if my computer cooperates, otherwise I'll bring them here tomorrow and post them then.

It was so good seeing everyone again, and Dean and I got some good pics at Eastern State. The family gathering was cool, and we got family introduced to Dean.. guess that means it's serious. Heh. We'll be up again at thanksgiving and for philcon, so for everyone we missed… soon, luvvies, soon.

I'm reading when I can by clicking on various other peoples flists, and the cool thing about this is that I'm reading all kinds of new people and people I've missed for a while (points at Angel-renewed, for one)… and I'm keeping up with e-lists and google news again.

Now, off to secure 12 Monkeys. I'm buying it, because this is like the third time I will have wanted to watch it in less than a year, and I still love it.

Hope you're all well–miss you!

welp.

the computer is very, very unhappy with me. it and its operating system are having massive, throw-lamps-at-the-wall arguments, which means booting the computer takes loading the system disk and running first aid EVERY DAMNED TIME I start it after a crash. I'm trying to shut the thing down before it crashes, but haven't succeeded in doing so yet, because I'm trying to get stuff done on it in the meantime (like back everything the fuck up…I feel like I'm putting my entire life into my FTP space.) Created problems last night for a freelance assignment I had, so I ended up sitting at the office til 8 getting it done after work. Not something I want to make a habit of, to be sure, but I guess I just can't take any freelance work for a while. The other annoying thing about this is that I desperately need to burn CDs now that I'm DJing every WEEK, which is a new thing for me, and given how much I've railed at DJs who spin too-similar sets every week, I'm trying really hard not to overplay stuff to my crew of regulars, who pretty much consist of Dean, Chris the bartender, a couple of guys who want to know too much about me, and the waitress. But the entire closing staff of Borders came down to hang out last night, and one of them gushed, at the end of the night, about what INCREDIBLE taste in music I have. And even though she said she might come, I was terribly surprised to see there. One guy, sitting alone at a table, came up and complimented me on my music–and it was only later that I noticed he was wearing all black and had spiked belt on. It was a strongly down-tempo flavored set, and I'm getting back in the swing of beatmatching, though I'm doing so in the 90-100 range. I spin weird mixes and have oddball transitions, but it can be safely said that I'm spinning alternative music that spans almost 5 decades, and will be continuing to spin these bizarre mixes for as long as they'll let me. But I'm seriously considering making one night a month “Hair Metal!!!” night, because god knows the 30-somethings who live in these parts who aren't urban transplants are growed-up hair metal sorts. And I can spin that stuff with a solid sense of irony afoot–I hated it in high school, but find it charming and nostalgic now.

Anyhow. So all my promised updates will be even more sporadic than before. But I _promise_ I will get my set lists up before I go to Philly. Or I'll take them with me and post them from up there.

I will be in Philly this weekend, and my best opportunity for being casually social will be at Dahlak on Friday night. I'm also spinning at John's Dark Corner on Saturday. So come out, you guys!
